We got fruits and veggies from local fruit vendors at Nimishamba Temple on our Picnic yesterday. I bought some semi ripe star fruit and made spicy sweet sour Gojju / Curry (for lack of a better word for it) maybe chutney?
There were so many people out on the streets, on the highway and in the temple yesterday! My God! And no social distancing. Ugh! 😒 The parking attendant dude came upto us and stuck his head right into the driver side window and The Husband had to tell him 'Swalpa Doora Hogi' (please go back). We sent out our prayers to Goddess Nimishamba from the parking itself.. She understands.
The recipe of this Gojju is inspired from an Odiya recipe of
🌿 Kamranga Khatta 🌿
🌿 Heat 2tbsp oil in a pot. Add in 1/4 tsp each of Cumin, Mustard, Fennel (Saunf), Nigella (Kalonji), Fenugreek (Methi) and Hing
🌿 Add 1tbsp red chilli powder and cook for 30secs. Add cut star fruit. Add in 1tsp Salt and 1tbsp Jaggery/ Sugar.
🌿 Add 1/4 cup water mix well and let the fruit cook for 5-10 mins stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust salt, sugar and chilli powder.
🌿 Once the star fruit is tender and cooked. Turn off the heat. If you want it less / more water add more water or reduce it on low medium heat.
🌿 Serve it hot with Dosa, rice, idli, chapati with loads of ghee 😊
