Menthe Chutney

I had made North Karnataka special Methe Kalina Chutney - Methi/ Fenugreek seed chutney yesterday to go with the jowar Dosa. Depending on our tolerance for bitter taste, we can increase or decrease the quantity of Methi.

The health benefits of Fenugreek are numerous. I usually sneak in methi is various masalas. This is one of the more direct ways to consume it. Large dose of methi is a good antidote for Ushna (excessive body heat) symptoms could range from burning /watery eyes, eye stye, dry lips, mouth ulcers, dry peeling palms, hemorrhoids..

The husband doesn't like bitter things and this chutney is bitter and slimy.. two words which are least appetising words to describe any food item. I personally don't find it unsavory au contraire I love it hot rice and ghee! Having pickles or spiced buttermilk as an accompaniment along with the chutney can help with the taste.

Fenugreek Seeds Chutney

1/4 cup Fenugreek seeds soaked for 8-10hrs. (Use along with water)
3/4 cup Dry Coconut
5-6 dry red chillies
1 onion
4-5 cloves of garlic
1 lemon sized tamarind
1tbsp Jeera
1tsp salt
1tsp jaggery

🌿 Make a fine homogenous paste. Add water according to your preference.
