Yes, you read that right. Stop eating. Eating what, you ask? I say everything. Stop eating everything. I think we spend too much time thinking what to eat, how much to eat that we don't stop to think whether we should be eating in the first place or not. Eating is what is making us sick so the solution isn't to eat more but to stop eating altogether.
Today Intermittent Fasting is everywhere. You may hear people talking about weird ratios like 16:8 or 18:6 and throwing words around like Whoosh and Autophagy. Everyone seems to be doing Intermittent Fasting to lose weight. The misconception that Intermittent Fasting is a fad weight loss diet sadly stops regular people, who are not looking for weight loss from reaping the benefits of fasting. Fasting is the most natural state of being for any animal on this planet. No other animal on the planet has a steady source of food at their disposal like humans do, so, they fast until they find their next meal. Which ideally would be our way of life too if not for modern agriculture and its gadgets.
Intermittent fasting should become everybody's way of life. Weight loss is a mere side effect of fasting. Fasting is more about healing. It gives our body time to repair and rejuvenate itself and get ready for the next day. Imagine a cycle with a punctured tyre. To repair, you have to first stop riding it. Our body is very much like a punctured tyre and us eating Acai Bowls and drinking Green Tea is akin to flinging a patch at a punctured tyre while riding the cycle.
Our Digestive System involves every organ in the body. When you fast for long hours, our body can switch its focus from digesting food all the time to other activities like building muscle, releasing growth hormones, repairing cell walls and just all round rejuvenation. Nature in all its wisdom has given our body and mind all the material it requires to heal itself. We just don't give it time away from all the digesting work for it to tap into its healing powers. People with pet dogs can attest, dogs routinely eat grass to detox and also refuse to eat food every now and then. They will not budge for any treats when they decide it's their fasting day. They are still in tune with their body's wisdom and natural instincts. They don't have a doggie scientist telling them how they must eat breakfast at all cost to 'kick-start' their metabolism.
Fasting is a very simple way of life. If you eat for 12 hours then you fast for 12 hours. It's not a competition to see who can fast longer or lose weight faster. If after fasting for 12 hours you are not hungry then you fast for another hour. You eat when you're hungry and not when the clock says so.
